  • GOALS

  • The Expert Course in Fire Protection Applied to Artistic and Monumental Heritage has the fundamental objective of providing students with comprehensive and qualified training in the field of Historical Heritage, taking into account its historical importance and the media attention it has received following recent fires in various historical buildings and monuments. Each of the six modules is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and technical abilities necessary for their comprehensive and complete development in the area of Fire Protection Engineering and Technology applied to Heritage, addressing aspects such as Fire Theory, the regulatory framework applicable to heritage, the fire risks associated with this field, the study of Fire Protection systems for these risks and fires, and the development of self-protection plans. The specific objectives of this Expert Course in Fire Protection Applied to Artistic and Monumental Heritage are as follows:
  • To introduce students to the fundamental concepts related to Heritage and the importance of preventing potential fires.
  • To understand the fundamental principles of Fire Theory, as well as the basic principles of Fire Protection.
  • To analyze the regulatory framework for Fire Protection applicable to Artistic and Monumental Heritage, giving students the ability to analyze, understand, and apply the different requirements and conditions established. To analyze and determine the fire risks associated with Artistic and Monumental Heritage in its various forms.
  • To delve into the effects of fire on Heritage, as well as the repercussions of using water in its extinguishment.
  • To be able to plan actions in the event of a fire, both in terms of prevention and response once a fire has started.
  • To learn the alternatives for handling Cultural Assets in case of fire, as well as their evacuation and transfer to a safe place.
  • To deepen and develop the operating principles, components, and basic design criteria of the different systems that comprise Active and Passive Fire Protection, with application to the risks and conditions of Artistic and Monumental Heritage.
  • To understand the fundamental points that make up the Self-Protection Plan and to provide the necessary tools for its development.
  • METHODOLOGY AND EVALUATION

  • The work and study methodology is entirely online, allowing students to follow the course flexibly according to their availability. The main characteristics of the teaching method are described below:
  • Training delivered through the ESSIIF virtual platform.
  • The course consists of materials edited and created exclusively by professionals in each of the subjects taught. These professionals will develop each topic by introducing fundamental theoretical concepts while incorporating the necessary practical design aspects. The core of the course is comprised of PDF documentation delivered via the platform.
  • Theoretical and practical training activities through video lessons complement the provided documentation.
  • Individualized tutoring with the program's instructors.
  • Students will have access to the virtual platform for twelve months to complete the course. This period can be extended for another six months.
  • The evaluation of each module will be conducted online through the submission of assignments and partial projects (80%) and a theoretical-practical exam that students will take at the end of each module (20%).

Introduction to the Spanish regulatory framework for fire protection. Module 2. Regulations for Fire Protection Installations - RIPCI RD 513/2017. Module 3. Technical Building Code – CTE. Module 4. Other applicable regulations. BLOCK 3. Fire risks and actions associated with Artistic and Monumental Heritage. Module 1. Introduction to Artistic and Monumental Heritage and its fire risk. Module 2.     DEGREES AND CERTIFICATES

  • At the end of the program, you will receive two certifications issued by two different entities:

  • Isabel I University certificate, with recognition of the ECTS credit equivalence of the number of hours completed.
